Getting to know your child as they develop can be one of the most rewarding parts of being a parent. Learning how your child looks at the world, teaching your child new skills, and mentoring him as he processes big new feelings and changes are all part of being a parent, but it's not easy

.

As your child develops, he or she goes through progressive stages of development, from birth to adulthood. Environmental, genetic, and cultural factors can affect a child's development and how quickly they progress from one stage to the next. It is difficult for children to explain what they are going through, much less analyze their feelings. This is where child psychology can help give you some very important and valuable information.

What is child psychology?
Child psychology is the study of a child's subconscious and conscious development. Child psychologists observe how a child interacts with their parents, themselves, and the world in order to understand their mental development

.

Why is this important?
Everyone wants their child to have healthy development, but it is not always clear whether a child's behavior is a symptom of a normal stage of development or a sign of an abnormality. Child psychologists can help you understand the difference. Understanding normal and abnormal child psychological patterns can help parents understand how best to communicate and connect with their child, teach their child to cope with emotion management mechanisms, and help their child progress and thrive through each new stage of development.

Child psychologists can also identify abnormal behAviours early, help uncover the root of common behavioral problems such as learning problems, hyperactivity or anxiety, and help children work through early childhood trauma. They can also help prevent, assess and diagnose developmental delays or abnormalities such as autism.

Child psychology studies the interaction of several major developmental areas:

Physical Development.
Physical development in children is usually a predictable sequence of events. Your child lifts his or her head, rolls over, crawls, walks, and runs in that order. Your child psychologist can assist your pediatrician in monitoring your child's physical development and if there are any abnormalities that may indicate developmental disorders. Child psychologists will monitor your child's progress toward developmental milestones to make sure your child is physically developing normally. Severe delays in physical development may reveal other underlying developmental problems, which can then be addressed early on.

Cognitive Development
The medical understanding of cognitive development in children has changed a lot in recent years. We now know that even newborn children are aware of and interested in their environment, even before they have the language to express it.

Cognitive development refers to a child's intellectual learning and thought processes. It includes observing and understanding the world around them, learning language, memory, decision making, problem solving, how the child uses his or her imagination, and how the child uses basic reasoning. All of these factors are influenced by genetics and the child's environment.

Emotional (social) development
Emotional and social development are deeply intertwined. Emotional development refers to how a child feels, understands, and expresses emotions. Emotional development is expressed in very young children through the expression of basic emotions such as fear, joy, anger, and sadness. As the child develops, more complex emotions emerge, such as confidence, hope, guilt, and pride. Emotional development also includes the child's ability to feel and understand the emotions of others through empathy. Learning to adequately regulate and express emotions is difficult for many children. Helping children understand their emotions early on can have a powerful impact on current and future emotional development. A child psychologist can help your child understand and express his or her emotions in a healthy, positive way.

Emotional development highly informs social development. This is true because the way a child feels, understands, and expresses his or her feelings has a direct impact on how he or she interacts with others. Social development is about how the child develops the values, awareness, and social skills necessary to interact with the people around them; their parents, peers, authority figures, and animals. A child's early relationships can have a huge impact on their development of age-appropriate social skills. Trust, friendship, conflict management, and respect for authority are examples of social development.

Child Psychology.
Child psychology is an important branch of family health. It gives parents resources by helping their children through developmental milestones and gives clinicians a deeper perspective on mental health and possible problems a child may encounter regarding
